It feels like a long time ago since we moved into West Bastlebog. Just over nine months to be precise. Since then we have shared some of our adventures with restocking, growing and harvesting through our blog. We are now delighted to be able to share some of what we have built with visitors to the farm. For we have also been carefully refurbishing an annexe to the main house. Whether it be for a weekend escape or a longer relaxing and peaceful break, this self contained 53sqm apartment is perfect for couples.
I used to be a Building Surveyor and room orientation when designing layouts often interested me. There's the obvious example of artists and jewellers preferring north facing windows for pureness of light. South west facing kitchen often overheat by the evening, east facing bedrooms are more inclined to wake you early if blackout's not your thing and so on. In my view this apartment is ideally orientated for comfort. There's the east facing kitchen that gets bathed with morning sunlight banishng any morning sleepiness and giving lovely views over fields of sheep to the Berwickshire coastline beyond. Then the north facing bedroom that has a stable temperature, excellent blackout, Egyptian cotton and goose down bedding with guests repeatedly saying what a good night's sleep they have. It may of course just be good old fresh air! There's also the comfortable sitting room that is full of natural light from early afternoon until sunset. An sunset that can be viewed and enjoyed over a glass of wine on the private patio accessed from the sitting room double doors. When it gets too cold then back into the sitting room and snuggle up in front of the wood burning stove.
Our holiday annexe went live on 4th September and already within a fortnight we already have welcomed our third couple who are staying for the week with steady future bookings. Spotless, cosy, peaceful, great night's sleep and beautiful countryside are all words and phrases that have been said. We just hope that visitors continue to enjoy all that West Bastlebog has to offer and the hiddens gems to visit and explore around the Scottish Borders. For more information on the accommodation then either go to our (new look) website www.millarorganics.co.uk or through AirBnB or Cottages for Couples.
Until next time.
