We are the Millars. We took over West Bastlebog in 2018. It is a small farm of just over 50 acres and such is the way with scale and farming these days, we farm on a part-time basis. We are registered with the Scottish Organic Producers Association (SOPA) and our land is certified organic.
Before moving to Berwickshire in 2018 we lived in Edinburgh for 13 years. Previously a Chartered Surveyor and a jobbing tradesman Andrew always had a keen interest in farming life, agriculture and self sufficiency. As an eight year old he was milking dairy cows single handedly on a Sunday morning because the farmer tended to have a little bit too much the night before to get out of bed. Alexa, a primary school and yoga teacher, has grown up with a love of horses and now runs private yoga classes for both guests and locals.
Our mission is simple. Work hard and love what we do. And we really do. Our aim has always been to create a relaxing rural retreat where we can share the beauty and natural surroundings with guests. At the heart of it lies the desire to be natural with the best animal welfare possible and 100% naturally grown produce; no chemicals, drugs only where absolutely essential , free to forage environments, regular rotation, natural remedies and mothers allowed to mother their young. All which we believe leads to tasty, nutritional, sustainable produce while positively contributing to our local eco-system.
